马丁曾在2025年1月至5月期间担任华盛顿哥伦比亚特区联邦检察官。但他作为该华盛顿地区首席检察官的临时任命最终未能如愿，因为他未能从国会共和党人那里获得足够的支持以通过正式确认。
此后，马丁在司法部担任过几个高级职务，但后来实际上被降职为特赦律师。在担任特赦律师期间，马丁曾向白宫提出过颇具争议的特赦建议。
此外，根据一份纪律处分请愿书，马丁在2026年1月还面临来自华盛顿特区律师协会的道德投诉。指控称，他曾威胁要扣留乔治城大学法学院的联邦资金，并试图在调查其担任联邦检察官期间的行为时从中作梗。
马丁还曾在2025年的公开言论中暗示，他将利用特赦律师的身份，调查前总统乔·拜登在离任前向其家人及部分工作人员发放特赦一事。

Martin previously served as the U．S． attorney for the District of Columbia from January to May 2025． But his temporary appointment to be Washington＇s top prosecutor ended after Martin didn＇t gain enough support from Republicans in Congress for his confirmation．
After that， Martin took on a handful of senior roles at the Justice Department before he was effectively demoted to pardon attorney． In his role as pardon attorney， Martinrecommendedcontroversial clemency recommendations to the White House．
Martin also faced anethics complaintfrom the Washington， D．C．， bar in January 2026 after allegations that he threatened to withhold federal funding to Georgetown University＇s law school and tried to sideline an investigation into his conduct when he served as U．S． attorney， according to the disciplinary petition．
Martin alsosuggestedin public comments in 2025 that he would use his role as pardon attorney to investigate the pardons that former President Joe Biden issued to his family and some staff as he left office．
